The nonstop service, which was first announced last December and launched last month, is ending as of June of this year.

"We have been evaluating consumer demand for the Cleveland-Montego Bay service we launched in early March, particularly in light of the current U.S. Travel Advisory involving Jamaica," Frontier told 3News in a statement. "Unfortunately, the demand has not proven sufficient to continue the route for the full summer season and the last flight will operate on June 29. We will continue to evaluate market conditions going forward."

The announcement comes at a time when Frontier's footprint in Cleveland has never been deeper.

Last month, Frontier cut the ribbon for a new crew base at Hopkins Airport that is expected to employ more than 400 flight attendants, pilots and maintenance professionals within its first year. Additionally, the new base is expected to generate nearly $80 million annually in local wages.

In February, the airline announced that it would be adding nonstop flights from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to 10 new destinations.

The new nonstop flights will begin next month to the following cities:

  • Houston Bush (IAH)
  • Jacksonville (JAX)
  • New Orleans (MSY)
  • Myrtle Beach (MYR)
  • Austin (AUS)
  • Charleston (CHS)
  • Savannah (SAV)
  • Salt Lake City (SLC)
  • Pensacola (PNS)
  • Baltimore (BWI)
  • Minneapolis-Saint Paul (MSP
  • New York LaGuardia (LGA)

“Our growth in Cleveland is soaring,” said Barry Biffle, CEO, Frontier Airlines previously to 3News. “We’re thrilled to connect consumers in Northeast Ohio with low fares to even more destinations throughout the U.S. Our new crew base at CLE set to open in March will help support our rapidly growing operations.”
