WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — It’s a popular destination for many Northeast Ohio families. As Kennywood prepares to open for the 2020 season, the amusement park has already announced the cancellation of its traditional Halloween season events – including Phantom Fright Nights, Happy Hauntings and Fall Fantasy.
Although those events will not take place this year, Kennywood officials said the park will stay open through the fall with “summer-style operations” on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Oct. 2 through Nov. 1.
“Some of our normal summer events will be held that month, with a seasonal twist to them,” Kennywood officials announced on Facebook.
Kennywood opens to the general public starting Saturday, July 11 after a season passholder preview from July 7-10. The park is launching multiple safety precautions, including limited capacity and required face coverings for all guests older than 3.
Last week, two other major Halloween events were canceled amid ongoing coronavirus concerns. Walt Disney World announced the cancellation of Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and the iconic Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia revealed their Terror Behind the Walls haunted attraction would not open this year.
Back in Ohio, Cedar Point and Kings Island both begin the reopening process next month (July 2 for Kings Island and July 9 for Cedar Point).
