MANSFIELD, Ohio — All schools in the Mansfield city district will be closed Monday "in an effort to stem a tide of high absenteeism due to colds and flu-like symptoms."
Superintendent Stan Jefferson says maintenance crews will spend the day disinfecting buildings and buses. Nearly a dozen school districts across Northeast Ohio were shut down for similar reasons on Friday, including nearby Crestline, Lucas, and Crestview.
"We will treat all of our buildings and buses will a hospital-grade disinfectant spray manufactured by Earthsafe Chemical Alternatives," Jefferson said. "This disinfectant is safe to use in all areas, even on food surfaces, without rinsing. There will be no harmful residue when students return on Tuesday.”
Despite the cleaning, the Y Kids Club will still meet at Malabar Intermediate School on Monday, as that building will have already been scrubbed.
