CLEVELAND — We're in store for an active week weather-wise across northern Ohio with our first snow of the season likely on the way. We're going to kick it off on a quiet and mild note as a storm system gets going in the southern and central Plains. Expect clouds to mix with some sunshine today with highs near 60. Winds will remain light.
Clouds will increase tonight with temps holding in the 50s. Expect rain and perhaps a rumble of thunder to move through Tuesday morning. The bulk of the rain looks to move through during the latter portion of the morning rush hour into late morning. The rain should move out by early afternoon, giving way to a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the low 60s. It will also turn breezy Tuesday morning with a gusty breeze expected for much of the day as that low gets going to our west. We'll stay quiet Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
WEATHER IMPACT ALERT DAYS
An area of low pressure will ramp up right over Ohio beginning Wednesday afternoon. We're expecting rain to develop Wednesday afternoon into the evening as a result. As an area of cold air aloft moves in late Wednesday, we'll likely turn that rain over to wet snow. Combined with a gusty wind, we're expecting impactful weather beginning Wednesday evening through the day on Thursday as wet snow and wind continues. Areas near the lakeshore will likely stay mainly rain as the wind off our warm lake will help to keep temps slightly elevated for those locations.
Wet snow and wind will continue into Thursday night, but as the coldest air aloft begins to move out, we'll change over to more of a rain/snow mix. That same rain/snow mix will continue on Friday with gusty winds and cold temps.
In terms of accumulations, it's still too early to put numbers on it -- but slushy accumulations are certainly possible. Some model guidance is indicating some healthy accumulations of wet snow Wednesday night into Thursday -- but that all depends on the snowfall rates which are impossible to nail down at this point. For now, we'll prepare for some slushy accumulations around here Thursday with gusty winds and colder weather on the way.
We should begin to quiet down for the upcoming weekend before more active weather comes our way next week leading up to Thanksgiving itself.
