CLEVELAND — As we track lake effect snow and its impacts on several counties throughout the region, the Ohio Department of Transportation is ready to battle the wintry weather as it accumulates on the roads.
“Crews have been out since midnight,” according to Brent Kovacs, Public Information Officer for ODOT District 12. “Approximately 230 crews are working around the clock.”
It comes as a Lake Effect Snow Warning has been issued for Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga and Lake counties. The heaviest snow is expected late tonight and into Tuesday morning.
“Travel could be very difficult,” according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland. “Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commutes Tuesday.”
A Winter Weather Advisory has also been issued for Portage and Trumbull counties.
Due to Sunday’s rainy conditions, Kovacs tells 3News that ODOT crews weren’t able to pretreat the roads. He’s urging drivers to allow for plenty of extra time to reach their destination.
“It will take you longer than normal to get to work,” he said.
3News will have complete coverage throughout the weather event.
Be careful out there!
