CLEVELAND — ODOT crews are gearing up to battle this week’s high-impact winter storm, which is expected to dump heavy snow and some ice throughout Northeast Ohio starting Wednesday.
Amanda McFarland, the Northeast Ohio Public Information Officer with ODOT, tells 3News they will be meeting with their meteorologist and the National Weather Service on Monday afternoon to get an update on the incoming storm.
“Right now we are waiting on the forecast to firm up a bit,” McFarland said when asked how ODOT is preparing. “Our plan is always the same to have crews out before, during and after the storm.”
She said the “before” planning may change due to possible rain.
“Rain will wash away any pre-treatment that can be done,” she noted.
Earlier Monday, ODOT also tweeted about the incoming wintry weather.
“It looks like Ohio is going to get a little bit of everything from this storm,” their tweet said. “Plan ahead now. Our crews will be out, but travel is going to be tough during and immediately after the storm.”
The winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow, ice and some rain from Wednesday into Friday.
"Things will go downhill on Wednesday with high impacts across the entire area on Thursday," 3News Chief Meteorologist Betsy Kling said Sunday. "Impacts will last into the weekend."
