Heavy rains lead to flooding in several Northeast Ohio communities; PHOTOS, VIDEO

A Flood Warning for the Cuyahoga River in Independence and Black River in Elyria remains in effect until Saturday afternoon.

CLEVELAND — A heavy dose of rain on Friday led to a Flash Flood Warning being issued for several Northeast Ohio counties.

Cuyahoga, Geauga, Medina, Lake, Lorain, and Summit counties were all under the warning for most of Friday afternoon and into the evening. The heavy rains led to flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage and low lying areas.

Flood Warnings continue to be in effect for the Black River area in Elyria and the Cuyahoga River in Independence until Saturday afternoon.

Flooding caused havoc on several roads in North Ridgeville. Lear Nagle Road was closed north of Chestnut Ridge Road because of creeks overflowing their banks. Bainbridge Rd. was closed between Root and SR 83.

A frustrated North Ridgeville Police Department took to Facebook to try to encourage motorists to stay off the roadways.

"Look, this water is no joke. Please stop trying to drive through it. We are currently enroute to our second call of a vehicle stuck. Each one of those requires an emergency response from both us and the Fire Department, the North Ridgeville Police Department wrote in an exasperated post on Facebook.

Police in Oberlin said they have shut down as many roads as possible, including State Route 58 between Butternut Ridge Road and State Route 511, because of flooding.

In North Royalton, Gus Angelone captured this video of flooding on Abbey Rd. just past Sprague. "👀 White water rafting anyone?! 🏄‍♂️," he posted on Facebook.

Meanwhile in Brecksville, Jack Kananian, a photographer for ScripType publications, sent this video of the Chippewa Creek flooding over in the Brecksville Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks.
