OHIO, USA — As Ohioans experience cooler temperatures and heavy rain moves across the region, mother nature is also ushering in strong winds. As a result, the National Weather Service issued wind advisories for several Northeast Ohio Counties.
"We could end up seeing winds gusting up to around 54 mph over in the Sandusky are, 30 [mph] here downtown Cleveland as well as Ashtabula, 25 [mph] down in the Akron--just be careful," said Meteorologist Jason Frazer during his forecast Friday morning.
That turned out to be the case, with the advisory finally expiring Saturday at 10 a.m. The counties affected were:
- Ashtabula (northern coast)
- Cuyahoga
- Erie
- Lake
- Lorain
- Ottawa
- Sandusky
The National Weather Service warned everybody in the impacted counties to secure any outdoor objects and to use extra caution when driving – especially for those behind the wheel of high-profile vehicles. There was also some heavy flooding in some areas, with Port Clinton being hit the hardest.
The heavy winds also caused power outages throughout Northeast Ohio. As of 11:30 a.m. Saturday, here's a look at which counties are experiencing outages from FirstEnergy:
- Cuyahoga - 5,800 outages
- Lake - 2,955 outages
- Ashtabula - 898 outages
