CLEVELAND — A heat wave has arrived in Northeast Ohio, with dangerous and possibly record-setting temperatures expected Monday through Friday.
Officials in cities including Canton and Cleveland have already announced cooling center locations that will be open during the scorching hot week. As temperatures soar near 100 degrees, more municipalities and counties are likely to announce plans to open cooling centers throughout the week.
Here's a list of cooling centers that we know of so far:
Cuyahoga County
- Cleveland
- Zelma George Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 3155 Martin L. King Blvd.
- Collinwood Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 16300 Lakeshore Blvd.
- Gunning Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 16700 Puritas Ave.
- Kovacic Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 6250 St. Clair Ave.
- Michael Zone Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 6301 Lorain Ave.
- Frederick Douglass Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 15401 Miles Ave.
- All cooling centers open Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Outdoor pools will be open on Wednesday, June 19 (Juneteenth) at regularly scheduled hours
- Playground programs suspended Monday through Friday including playground meal program. Playground staff will be assigned to recreation centers, and all rec centers will serve lunch to kids 18 and under from noon to 1 p.m. daily.
- Only the cooling centers will serve meals on Wednesday, June 19 due to the federal Juneteenth holiday.
