CLEVELAND — March 21 is known as World Down Syndrome Day as officials say the date itself -- 3/21 -- signifies “the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome,” which causes Down Syndrome.
It’s a day used to raise awareness with “a single global voice advocating for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down Syndrome.”
But why are colorful, mismatched socks connected to World Down Syndrome Day?
“The idea is to start a conversation, so when people ask you about your socks you can tell them, ‘I’m wearing them to raise awareness of Down syndrome,’” according to WorldDownSyndromeDay.org. “And then you can tell them everything you want them to know about Down syndrome.”
So... Before you leave the house today, don't forget to join the effort and Rock Your Socks!
3News’ Dave Chudowsky, Maureen Kyle and Matt Wintz all showed off their fun socks in honor of World Down Syndrome Day during the GO! morning show.
