CLEVELAND — A 20-year-old man was fatally shot and a 25-year-old woman was injured in an attempted robbery that took place in Cleveland on Wednesday night.
According to Cleveland Police, officers responded to 7407 Canton Avenue at approximately 8 p.m. for a report of a car that had crashed into a house. Upon arrival, officers met with EMS workers who were rendering aid to a victim located in the driver seat of a black Dodge pickup and suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
The 24-year-old man, who has been identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office as Derek Tyrone Blanding Parks of East Cleveland, was transported to Metro, where he was pronounced dead. A second victim, a 25-year-old woman, had fled the scene and was located at a nearby gas station. Police say that she suffered hearing loss and a sprained elbow in the incident.
A preliminary investigation determined that the victims were in the Dodge pickup truck parked in the area and were met by three males who then attempted to rob them and shot the 24-year-old man. No arrests have been made and an investigation remains ongoing.
