AKRON, Ohio — A 29-year-old man was arrested after allegedly holding two roommates against their will at their apartment in Akron on Tuesday night.
According to Akron Police, one of the two victims texted another friend that they were being held against their will at an apartment complex in the 500 block of E. Buchtel Avenue. Upon arriving around 8:15 p.m., police located the two victims, 19 and 21, inside the residence, along with 29-year-old Xavier Gross, who was detained without incident.
The 19-year-old victim told police that he was inside a bedroom when he heard who he initially thought was his roommate enter the apartment. After exiting the room, the 19-year-old found Gross -- whom he didn’t know -- inside his apartment. The 21-year-old roommate returned home moments later, with Gross reportedly ordering both men to sit in the living room and instructing them not to leave or make any phone calls.
Gross allegedly provided conflicting and unexplainable accounts of the incident, which police found "bizarre." He was subsequently arrested and later booked into the Summit County Jail on Burglary and Unlawful Restraint charges.
No injuries were reported and no weapon used during the incident, the motive of which is currently unknown. Alcohol may have played a role in the incident, according to police.
