$500,00 bond set for suspect accused of multiple burglaries in Westlake

A suspect has been arrested following multiple burglaries on Marview Drive in Westlake.

WESTLAKE, Ohio — A suspect has been arrested following multiple burglaries and burglary attempts on Marview Drive in Westlake.

On Tuesday, the Westlake Police Department took to social media to share a picture of a suspect carrying a gun. According to police, the man was "wandering around a backyard on Marview early this morning at about 2:15 a.m." and was looking in the window of residences with a handgun while wearing a ski mask.

The Westlake Police Department told 3News' Isabel Lawrence that it had taken two burglary reports, one attempted burglary report and one criminal damaging report -- all of which came on Marview Drive, which contains both houses and apartment units

On Tuesday afternoon, police arrested 43-year-old Jeffrey Rennick, who they believe is connected to these crimes. Rennick allegedly stole watches and gaming systems from the two houses that were burglarized.

Westlake police used drones, tracking K9 teams, license plate readers as well as uniformed officers and detectives to identify the man. "A suspect identity was developed from numerous tips received from the public who saw the video of the perpetrator on the news and social media," Westlake police told 3News.

Eventually, Rennick was pulled over as he stopped at the Dollar General in North Olmsted. Rennick, who is being held at the Westlake Jail, is being charged with burglary of an occupied structure.

During an arraignment hearing on Wednesday, a bond of $500,000 was set for Rennick.

Westlake police detectives recovered the handgun seen in the video as well as the stolen items in the crime spree via a search warrant.
