AKRON, Ohio — The Akron Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that took place on Monday afternoon.
According to a release, officers were called to a shooting in the 900 block of Bellevue Avenue just after 4 p.m. When police arrived, they found a 26-year-old man on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center in critical condition, but was later pronounced dead.
He has since been identified as Carlos DeJesus Godineaux of Akron, according to new details released Tuesday morning from the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.
Although police say the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting are unknown, detectives have determined that "multiple unknown males" fled the scene on foot following the incident.
Akron police add that the investigation is "in the preliminary stages and remains ongoing."
