Akron Police, along with the help of other law enforcement partner agencies, seized 941 illegal firearms so far this year in order to reduce violent crime and enhance public safety.
In January 2021 alone, law enforcement officers confiscated a record of 98 illegal guns. That is 21 more firearms than apprehended around this time last year.

Lt. Michael Miller, public information officer for the Akron Police Department said they use a data-driven approach that identifies areas throughout the community most impacted by violent crime.
So far this year, Akron Police made traffic and investigate stops and conducted many investigations that resulted in 83 arrests on 159 gun-related charges. Accompanying charges include Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Robbery, Discharged Firearms, Felonious Assault, Murder, and a host of other charges.
Lt. Miller says public safety remains the highest priority and despite the daily risks, will work tirelessly to make the community safe.
