ASHLAND, Ohio — Two Ashland County Sheriff's deputies were hospitalized on Monday after being exposed to a drug while handling a prisoner at the county jail.
According to Chief Deputy David Blake, members of the Ashland Police Department brought a female to the jail who was suspected of having fentanyl and othe drugs in her bra. While conducting a search of the prisoner, two deputies found a baggie filled with white powder. As they tried to remove the baggie, it tore open, exposing both deputies.
A short time later, both deputies began having overdose reactions and were given Narcan and taken to a local hospital. Blake says both deputies are recovering and are expected to be released. The female prisoner was also taken to the hospital. She showed no signs of being affected by the suspected drug and was later taken back to the Ashland County Jail.
