SAYBROOK, Ohio — A suspect is in custody after authorities say he allegedly kidnapped a Lake County woman from her own home early Tuesday morning.
According to the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Office, the man broke into the woman's house and "forced her to leave with him her against her will." He later took her across the county line to his native Saybrook Township, where officers eventually responded to his residence on Depot Road.
After pinging his cell phone, deputies located the suspect and chased him into the nearby woods. After more than an hour, both he and the woman were found, with the victim unharmed in the incident.
"I want to congratulate our deputies [a] on great job this morning in apprehending this subject," Ashtabula County Sheriff William Niemi said in a statement. "I'm proud of this department and the people that work for me."
The matter remains under investigation, with deputies as well as Geneva police and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers conducting a search of the unidentified suspect's home. No specific charges have been announced at this time.
