CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Police Department confirms one of their patrol officers has been relieved from duty as he faces multiple criminal charges, which include felonious assault, aggravated robbery and strangulation.
While details of the case remain limited, the Cleveland Police Department issued the following statement to 3News on Monday:
Cleveland Police Patrol Officer Kevin Stanard was indicted in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court on multiple felony charges. Stanard, 61, was relieved from duty and will remain suspended without pay pending the adjudication of the criminal charges.
Officer Stanard was hired in March of 1997 and was most recently assigned to the 5th District.
There’s no further information at this time as this is an ongoing criminal investigation.
Court records show Stanard has been indicted on charges of felonious assault, aggravated robbery, strangulation, possessing firearm in liquor permit premises and using weapons while intoxicated.
The allegations against Stanard happened on or about May 5, 2023, according to a court document dated Aug. 18.
He’s scheduled for arraignment in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7.
