Man shot in downtown Cleveland overnight: Here's what police are saying

Cleveland EMS tells 3News the 43-year-old victim was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center.

CLEVELAND — A 43-year-old man was taken to the hospital in serious condition following an overnight shooting in downtown Cleveland.

Cleveland police say it was around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday when an officer from the Downtown Service Unit reported hearing a gunshot in the 2000 block of Ontario Street, which is near the JACK Cleveland Casino.

Cleveland police tell 3News the victim was found near a bus stop, but could not confirm if the shooting happened in or at the bus stop.

The victim was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment, according to Cleveland EMS.

A suspect -- identified as a 27-year-old man -- was arrested shortly after police arrived at the scene. Police say he was "attempting to flee from the area," while adding that two firearms were recovered during a subsequent search.

Although formal charges have not yet been filed, Cleveland police say the suspect was arrested for felonious assault/receiving stolen property.
