Drug overdose death leads to arrest of 2 Akron men; both charged with numerous drug, weapons crimes

An investigation into the drug overdose death of a 48-year-old man led Akron police to the suspects.

AKRON, Ohio — Two men were arrested Monday morning after an investigation into a drug overdose death, according to the Akron Police Department.

At approximately 8:40 a.m., Akron detectives went to a house in the 800 block of Nome Avenue to arrest 34-year-old Antonio Goodwin in connection to the death of 48-year-old Nathan Strickland.

Strickland died of a drug overdose on June 17, 2023. 

As the detectives arrived, 42-year-old Charles Workman was seen on the property along with Goodwin. Workman fled the scene in a vehicle as law enforcement officials approached. 

He was arrested shortly after fleeing, crashing the vehicle he was in. Workman was found to be in possession of 95 MDMA (Ecstasy) pills, 50 grams of cocaine and 56 grams of marijuana.

Goodwin was arrested after police searched the house. Officers found 390 grams of methamphetamines and two guns.

Goodwin was charged with the following:

  • Trafficking and weapons under disability related to the search and trafficking of fentanyl
  • Corrupting another with drugs
  • Involuntary manslaughter related to Strickland's death

Workman was charged with the following:

  • Two counts of Trafficking drugs and drug abuse
  • Two counts of drug abuse
  • Willful flee

Both were booked into the Summit County Jail.
