Erie County father indicted after allegedly using cattle prod to discipline children

Erie County Sheriff's deputies say Robert Bores used a cattle prod on two children, aged 7 and 8, for 'disciplinary purposes.'

SANDUSKY, Ohio — Robert Bores, the Erie County man accused of using a cattle prod to discipline two of his young children, has been indicted by a grand jury on three counts each of child endangerment and domestic violence.

Bores appeared in front of Erie County Common Pleas Court Judge Beverly McGookey for his arraignment on Tuesday. He entered a plea of not guilty and will have a pretrial hearing on June 25 at 9 a.m.

Bond for Bores was set at $90,000 and he was ordered to have no contact with the victims. In addition, Bores is not allowed to consume alcoholic beverages and will not be able to possess any firearms. He must also wear a GPS monitor, although his attorney did ask McGookey if it could be removed while Bores is out on bond.

"The whole thing is just terrible," Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth told 3News back in March when Bores was arrested for using a cattle prod on the children, aged 7 and 8.

Sigsworth told 3News that the investigation began after one of the children told someone at school what had happened.

"Deputies went out to the residence with the children's services caseworkers and their investigation revealed that Robert Bores had apparently been using a cattle prod as a disciplinary tool on his children," said Sheriff Sigsworth.

Sigsworth told 3News that the Bores' don't have cattle on their property, just ducks and chickens.

"What would compel someone to use a cattle prod on a child is beyond me," he added.

According to Sigsworth, Bores admitted to detectives that he used the cattle prod on the children.

Sigsworth also told 3News that Bores has been arrested multiple times in the past, including for domestic violence and was charged with child endangering in 2021.
