FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio — A 41-year-old man has been arrested after Fairview Park police say he fired shots during a weekend incident at the Ramada Inn in the 22100 block of Brookpark Road.
Police say officers responded to the scene around 2:38 a.m. Sunday “on the report of a male threatening patrons with a gun.”
The suspect -- identified as 41-year-old David Kaczynski of Fairview Park -- had reportedly fled the scene on foot. Officers later found him on Mastick Road near West 220th Street “and took him into custody without incident.”
While he did not have a gun at the time he was found, police say they traced his path from the hotel and located a firearm in the back yard of a home on Brookpark Road.
Fairview Park police say their preliminary investigation revealed that Kaczynski had been drinking inside the CLEOH’s bar when he allegedly attacked a female bartender.
“Bar employees and patrons grabbed Kaczynski and threw him out of the bar after a struggle,” according to Fairview Park police. “Kaczynski left the property in a pickup truck but quickly returned with a handgun threatening the people who threw him out of the bar.”
Police say he chased them into the lobby and fired two rounds.
“The bullets did not strike anyone but did strike the interior of the lobby," according to police. "Kaczynski ran away as police pulled in."
One person was hurt in the incident as police say he was “cut by broken glass while fleeing the gunfire.” He was treated by the Fairview Park Fire Department and declined transportation to the hospital.
“Kaczynski was arrested and taken to the North Olmsted City Jail where he is being held on attempted murder charges until he appears in Rocky River Municipal Court,” according to police. “This investigation is ongoing and may lead to further criminal charges.”
