79-year-old driver pleads guilty to hit-and-run death of Lakewood business owner Cassandra Fear

Gus Blavos was sentenced to 36 months of probation and had his license suspended until Dec. 2028.

CLEVELAND — Gus Blavos, the 79-year-old man facing hit and run charges relating to the deadly hit-and-run of Lakewood business owner Cassandra Fear last year, opted to change his plea to guilty on the day his trial was slated to begin. 

According to court records, Blavos pleaded guilty to a felony charge of stopping after an accident and a misdemeanor charge of vehicular homicide. He was sentenced by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Jennifer O'Donnell to 18 months of probation on each count and will have his driver's license suspended until Dec. 16, 2028.

CASE DETAILS

The Cleveland Division of Police says the incident happened in the 3700 block of West 130th Street at around 9 p.m. on Dec. 16, 2023. 

Cassandra Fear, 41, was struck by another vehicle after exiting her vehicle when it struck a parked vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

In February of this year, Blavos was indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury on a felony charge of failure to stop after an accident, plus a misdemeanor charge of vehicular homicide.
