PHOENIX — A 29-year-old man wanted by the Mansfield Police Department for attempted murder has been captured in Arizona, according to the US Marshals Service.
Michael Childress was arrested Tuesday afternoon by members of the Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force and booked into the Maricopa County Jail where he’s awaiting extradition back to Ohio.
Childress was wanted for his alleged role in a May 1 incident in which authorities say he shot 31-year-old Kenneth Norris in the head following an argument outside of a Mansfield convenience store near the 1000 block of West 4th Street.
Norris died days later from his injuries and a homicide warrant for Childress is expected.
“From the Mansfield Police Department to the fugitive task force in Phoenix, Arizona, this arrest was the result of outstanding law enforcement efforts,” said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott. “Fugitives can flee, but they cannot outrun the reach of the U.S. Marshals Service.”
