AKRON, Ohio — Stacy Martin, the 26-year-old Akron man indicted in connection to a fatal shooting in August, was arraigned Monday in Summit County Common Pleas Court.

Martin pleaded not guilty to all counts and had his bond set at $250,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 4.

Last month, Martin was indicted on the following in relation to the death of 20-year-old Elijah Jones on Aug. 10:

  • Voluntary manslaughter, with a three-year firearm specification
  • Having weapons while under disability
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Obstructing justice
  • Trafficking in marijuana

According to the Akron Police Department, officers responded to a shooting in the 1800 block of Coventry Street at 11:25 p.m. and found Jones in front of a home suffering from a gunshot wound. Jones was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Police took Martin into custody shortly after the shooting. He was initially charged with murder, tampering with evidence, weapons under disability and "other related charges," police said.

According to investigators, the shooting was a result of "an altercation of some kind" between Martin and Jones. Investigators have sought to determine if other people were around the home when the shooting took place.
