CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Lorain man wanted for the fatal shooting that took place outside of the headquarters of the Chronicle-Telegram newspaper in Elyria last month has been captured in Iowa.
According to Lt. Bill Lantz of the Elyria Police Department, 25-year-old Antoine Richardson was arrested on Thursday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and will undergo the extradition process back to Lorain County.
Isael Eduardo Rios was shot in the Chronicle's East Avenue parking lot in the early morning hours of September 2. Rios later died at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. The Chronicle-Telegram reviewed its surveillance footage and reported the fatal altercation began around 2:20 a.m. and involved four people in three cars.
The U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force was enlisted to assist in locating and apprehending Richardson. He was caught Thursday by the U.S. Marshals Northern Iowa Violent Fugitive Task Force in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
"The Elyria Police Department wishes to express its gratitude to all law enforcement agencies involved in this collaborative effort," Lantz stated. "Their unwavering dedication and cooperation were instrumental in the successful apprehension of Antoine Richardson."
