AKRON, Ohio — No one was injured, but nine people were displaced after a fire at an Akron apartment building on Friday afternoon.
According to a release from the Akron Fire Department, crews were called to an apartment building in the 2600 block of Shoreline Drive just after 3 p.m. The fire was reportedly coming from the patio area of the building. Fire companies also reported seeing smoke while en route to the building.
Crews arrived to heavy smoke and flames showing from the building. While firefighters battled the blaze, the Akron Police Department was requested to divert traffic from Shoreline Drive. Meanwhile, the American Red Cross was contacted to assist nine people who were displaced from five of the building's apartment units.
The fire was under control just before 4:15 p.m. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
