Akron police: 19-year-old dies after wrong-way dirt bike, ATV crash

A 19-year-old man was pronounced dead and a 21-year-old man was found conscious and breathing before being transported to a hospital.

CLEVELAND — A 19-year-old man died after a truck and two off-road vehicles were involved in a wrong-way accident in Akron late Friday night, police said.

According to the Akron Police Department, officers responded to the area of Manchester Road and Nesmith Lake Boulevard just after 11:30 p.m. Friday. A caller told 911 operators that an ATV, a dirt bike and a Chevrolet truck were involved in the crash.

The 19-year-old driver of the dirt bike was found unresponsive and later died of his injuries, police said. A 21-year-old man, who was driving the ATV, was conscious and breathing and was taken to an Akron hospital for treatment. 

Multiple indicated to police that the drivers of the dirt bike and the ATV were driving in the wrong lane of traffic at the time of the accident.

Detectives are still reconstructing the scene and investigating the crash.
