Teenage girl taken to hospital following shooting in Akron

​The victim told police that she and her friends were "walking to a friend's house when she was shot by an unknown suspect in a suspicious vehicle."

AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating after a teenage girl was shot overnight.

According to police, the shooting happened at around 3:25 a.m. on Thursday in the area of Margaret Street and Corley Street. 

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a 14-year-old girl who had been shot near her left knee. 

The victim told police that she and her friends were "walking to a friend's house when she was shot by an unknown suspect in a suspicious vehicle."

The teenage girl was taken to Akron Children's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

At this time, the shooting remains under investigation by Akron police.
