Akron woman arrives at hospital with gunshot wounds, police say vehicle 'riddled with bullet holes'

Based on preliminary information, Akron police say the victim was shot by an unknown suspect outside a residence in the 1300 block of Sweitzer Avenue.

AKRON, Ohio — When a 26-year-old woman came to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center with gunshot wounds early Friday morning, Akron police say she arrived in a vehicle that was "riddled with bullet holes."

It was around 6:20 a.m. when the woman was dropped off at the hospital, police said while noting her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Based on preliminary information, Akron police say the victim was shot by an unknown suspect outside of a residence in the 1300 block of Sweitzer Avenue.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unknown,” according to a press release from the Akron Police Department. “Detectives are working to gather additional information, including determining who was responsible for the incident. 

Shell casings were recovered from the scene.  

Anybody with information is asked to call the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490. Tipsters can also remain anonymous by calling the Summit County Crimestoppers at 330-434-COPS.

No additional details were immediately available.
