17-year-old shot and killed in Akron

AKRON, Ohio — The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office confirms a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed in Akron on Monday night.

Akron Police, EMS and the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office were all called to the 600 block of Clifford Avenue in the city of Akron at about 6:10 p.m. Monday evening. The department says it got multiple calls from witnesses who reported hearing a verbal altercation and then several gunshots.

When police and crews arrived, they found the teen in the back yard of an apartment building. He had suffered several gunshot wounds.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Dontez Burns, a 17-year-old from Akron. According to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office, the autopsy has been completed and the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest. The manner of death is homicide.

Akron Police are still investigating the crime. No suspect has been named at this time.
