AKRON, Ohio — The Akron Police Department says two teen boys -- ages 14 and 16 -- have been charged with robbery in connection with an incident involving a stolen delivery driver’s vehicle.
Police say it was around 6:30 p.m. Sunday when officers responded to the scene in the 50 block of East Mapledale Avenue. That’s where a 21-year-old Domino’s delivery driver reported that two males stole his vehicle and an unknown amount of cash at gunpoint while he was making a delivery.
“Not long after the robbery, officers were able to track the victim’s vehicle to the intersection of E. Emerling and Grant streets using the GPS on his phone, which was left inside the car,” according to Akron police. “Officers observed two subjects walking away from the stolen car as they moved in.”
Those subjects -- identified as the teen boys -- were detained without incident and taken to the police station for questioning.
“As the investigation unfolded, officers searched a residence in the 1200 block of Sherman Street, where one of the suspects lived,” police said. “They recovered a gun likely used in the commission of the robbery, along with the Domino’s Pizza box, cash and other evidence.”
Both teens were later charged with robbery in connection with the incident.
No additional details were immediately available.
