Ashtabula Police investigating stabbing that stemmed from argument over marijuana

The victim is a 39-year-old Painesville man who was transported to UH Cleveland Medical Center’s Trauma Center in Downtown Cleveland.

The Ashtabula County Sheriff's Office is investigating a stabbing that allegedly occurred after an argument over marijuana on Friday evening.

Deputies were called after a man entered the County Line Corner Store with a severe neck laceration just before 9:30 p.m. on Friday. The victim, a 39-year-old Painesville man, said that he had been stabbed.

According to police, the victim fled to the store after an incident occurred at a residence in the 6500 block of North Ridge Road West. A preliminary investigation revealed that the two men involved in the incident were intoxicated and arguing over marijuana when the stabbing took place.

The victim was transported to University Hospitals Geneva Medical Center and later transferred to UH Cleveland Medical Center’s Trauma Center in Downtown Cleveland for treatment of his injuries. An investigation remains ongoing.
