'An intentional act': Canton police arrest man in alleged hit-and-run death

CANTON, Ohio — A 41-year-old Canton man has died after police say he was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle in what investigators are saying “was an intentional act.”

The Canton Police Department says the victim was found in the roadway around 7:55 a.m. Monday when officers were dispatched to the scene in the 1900 block of 48th Street NW.

The victim -- identified by Canton police as Cateno J. Demetro -- was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later.

A suspect was also arrested shortly after the incident. Police say 45-year-old Matthew Patrick Colopy of Canton faces charges of murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence.

As police continue their investigation of the case, authorities are asking for anybody with information connected to the incident to call the Canton Police Detective Bureau at 330-489-3144.
