CLEVELAND — Mike Norman of the Cleveland Fire Department told 3News that a suspect has been arrested after a warrant was issued in connection with a weekend house fire that was ruled arson.
In addition, 3News learned on Thursday that an arrest warrant was issued for a second suspect in connection to the arson. That suspect has since been taken into custody, although their name has not been released at this time.
According to the arrest warrant, 21-year-old Euclid resident Tyric M. Green is accused of traveling to a house in the 1200 block of West 106th Street on Saturday morning and setting it on fire with an "open flame" and "flammable liquid."
The warrant also stated that a resident of the house is the landlord of Green's grandmother.
Witnesses tell WKYC that Cecelia Li and her husband, Felipe, were asleep on the second floor when the fire started. A neighbor went knocking on their door and others to alert them of the fire. They were able to escape the fire with their 7-month-old child by jumping out of a window.
The couple's dog died in the blaze, but their cat, Evelyn, was found two days later alive and well in a first-floor bathroom.
Witnesses also claim the suspect was caught on a Ring camera committing the crime.
Before the fire was extinguished, it spread to two nearby houses and two vehicles. Cleveland Fire said the estimated loss to the house where the fire originated is $500,000. The loss for the other houses has been estimated at $60,000 each. The combined financial loss to the vehicles is estimated at $85,000.
Court records show Green has been charged with aggravated arson.
