CLEVELAND — Navy veteran and local dentist Dr. Cliff Moore kicked off a 100-mile run back on April 19 at the Soldiers’ and Sailors' Monument in downtown Cleveland to raise money and awareness for STRIVE (The Suicide and Trauma Reduction Initiative for Veterans).
Now, in an update just a few weeks later we've learned that his effort raised $40,000.
3News was there the morning Dr. Moore started his journey in Public Square shortly after 6 a.m.
During his run, Dr. Moore had planned to visit several veterans memorials, monuments and museums before ending at the VFW post in his hometown of Clyde in Sandusky County.
It was all part of the “Tribute Trail for Heroes Run,” which is used to raise awareness for the STRIVE program.
“The Suicide and Trauma Reduction Initiative for Veterans (STRIVE) is the only research institute in the U.S. that explicitly focuses on developing, refining, and treating in the areas of suicide, trauma, and gun related violence risk reduction,” according to the organization’s site. “STRIVE moved its globally recognized programs and operations to The Ohio State University in 2020 and continues to conduct research, education, outreach, and advocacy for improving the lives of veterans, military service members everywhere.”
Dr. Moore told 3News the organization is "literally saving veterans lives."
"As a veteran myself, my wife and I promised that when we left the Navy that we were going to serve veterans in our community wherever we ended up.”
