ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — According to a release from the Rocky River City School District to parents and guardians of students in the city, a School Resource Officer (SRO) has been removed from his position after he was found to have taken part in "inappropriate behavior."
On July 25, 2023, the school district was made aware of the inappropriate behavior from Rocky River High School SRO Michael Bernhardt. The information was then turned over to the Rocky River Police Department (RRPD) for further investigation.
According to a previous report on WKYC.com in July, the Rocky River police department said Bernhardt "may have had communication with a high school student that was inconsistent with his role as an SRO."
Based on information uncovered by the RRPD and an independent investigator, the pattern of behavior was confirmed.
The school district removed Bernhardt from his responsibilities as SRO and confirmed that he will not return to that position in the future.
3News reached out to the Rocky River Police Department for comment and further clarification. No additional details are available at this time.
