66-year-old woman dies in weekend Akron crash

Police believe that speed may have played a role in the crash.

AKRON, Ohio — A 66-year-old woman has died following a Sunday afternoon crash in Akron.

Authorities say it was just before 2 p.m. when officers were called to the scene in the 1500 block of East Market Street.

Akron police say a man was driving an S10 Chevy pickup truck with two passengers at a high rate of speed when a person driving a Ford Explorer pulled out of a driveway in the same area.

The pickup truck rolled onto its left side after it was struck by the Ford, police say.

The 57-year-old man who was driving the truck was ejected from the vehicle along with a 35-year-old man who was the rear passenger. Both were taken to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries.

The 66-year-old woman, who was the front-seat passenger inside the pickup truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, identified as a 43-year-old woman, sustained a minor injury. Her two passengers were unharmed.

Although the crash remains under investigations, Akron police say speed "appears to have been a factor."
