Woman dies after vehicle crashes into Elyria home overnight

'Alcohol and excessive speed are suspected to be factors in the crash,' according to a press release from the Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

ELYRIA, Ohio — A 46-year-old woman has died following an early morning crash in Elyria where authorities say the vehicle she was driving struck a house on West Ridge Road near Route 113 in Lorain County.

It was around 1:07 a.m. Friday when the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the scene in which the driver of a 2005 Ford 500 -- identified as Holly Houle of Elyria -- was traveling south on West Ridge Road before going off the right side of the road and crashing into a residence.

“Alcohol and excessive speed are suspected to be factors in the crash,” according to a press release from the Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Houle was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center where she later died, authorities said.

“Houle was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash,” according to the Highway Patrol.

The Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by multiple departments, including the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, Elyria Fire Department, Elyria Township EMS and Amherst Fire Department.

The crash remains under investigation.

No additional details were provided.
