ELYRIA, Ohio — The Elyria Fire Department rescued a man who was stuck under the Lake Avenue Bridge in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m. after a man jumped in the Black River during a foot chase involving Elyria Police. According to the fire department, the man was able to pull himself from the water but was injured and was in a narrow crevice directly beneath the Lake Avenue Bridge.
Elyria Police proceeded to launched their drone and were able to determine the exact location of the man. Firefighters then utilized a rope system to bring theman to safety.
The man had an apparent leg injury and was transported to UH Elyria.
"It was a great team effort between Elyria Safety Forces to successfully rescue the victim with limited visibility and the dangerous river currents," the Elyria Fire Department said in a release.
