ELYRIA, Ohio — A 27-year-old Elyria man is in custody after being identified as the driver involved in a hit-skip with a 5-year-old boy on Tuesday.
The incident happened late Tuesday afternoon in Elyria. Police say the child was crossing Bath Street near the 100 block when he was struck by a silver Ford Focus headed eastbound. The driver fled the area without stopping.
The child was life-flighted to University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. In a statement, Elyria police officials say the boy is expected to be released from the hospital on Wednesday.
Elyria police detectives continued its investigation on Wednesday and located the suspect vehicle. They identified Christopher Allgood as the driver of the car. He was taken into custody and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury and driving with a suspended license. He is being held on bond pending an initial appearance in Elyria Municipal Court.
