ELYRIA, Ohio — A 19-year-old Oberlin man is in custody following the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man in the parking lot of Walmart in Elyria.
Elyria police say the shooting happened on Thursday just before 5 p.m. at the Walmart located at 1000 Chestnut Commons.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found 21-year-old Nicholas Tubbs of Grafton in the parking lot. He was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, where he died early Friday morning.
After a preliminary investigation, Elyria police took out a warrant for Roosevelt Benton on the charge of felonious assault. Benton was arrested in Oberlin and was arraigned early Friday in Elyria Municipal Court. Elyria police say as the investigation continues, additional criminal charges are expected against Benton.
