MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio — Two teens from Chippewa Lake have died after an early morning crash on Ryan Road, which happened near the intersection of Eastlake Road in Lafayette Township.
Authorities say it was around 5:35 a.m. Thursday when troopers from the Medina Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the scene and found a 2010 Hyundai Accent off the roadway.
Both of the vehicle’s occupants -- identified as 18-year-old Dale Wurgler (driver) and 19-year-old Alex Limas (front-seat passenger) -- were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Authorities say the preliminary investigation shows the Hyundai was traveling northbound on Ryan Road “when it went off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected and went off the left side of the roadway” where it struck a ditch.
“It then struck a street sign, overturned and struck a tree,” according to a press release from the Highway Patrol, which also indicates “speed appears to be a factor.”
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Medina County Sheriff’s Office, Medina Police Department and Medina County Coroner’s Office all assisted at the scene.
No additional details were immediately available.
