WADSWORTH, Ohio — We’re following news out of Wadsworth where the Ohio Bureau of Investigation responded to a deadly shooting in the 200 block of Durling Drive.
Wadsworth police say it was around 9:02 p.m. Tuesday when officers responded to the scene “in response to a report of a male subject armed with a handgun and threatening suicide in his back yard.”
Shortly after police arrived at the residence, officers reported that gunshots had been fired. The press release from Wadsworth police, however, does not make it clear if gunfire was exchanged with the man.
Police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 54-year-old Shannon Sloan.
“It is the Wadsworth Police Department’s policy to have the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation conduct the investigation of any officer-involved shooting incident,” according to a press release from Wadsworth police. “As such, BCI was requested and they responded to the scene to begin the investigative process.”
The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
“Commentary on social media that this incident was related to the Blue Tip parade or festival, or that there was a potential threat to the festival is false,” police noted. “None of these claims are accurate and at no time was there any threat to the Blue Tip festivities.”
