CLEVELAND — On Thursday, Newsweek released its list of the country's top maternity hospitals.
And you didn't have to look far to find Northeast Ohio represented, with seven area locations making this year's list, including the following:
- Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital - Cleveland
- Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital - Mayfield Heights
- UH Cleveland Medical Center - Cleveland
- Cleveland Clinic - Cleveland
- Cleveland Clinic Akron General - Akron
- MetroHealth - Main Campus Medical Center - Cleveland
- Summa Health System Akron Campus - Akron
According to a release from the Cleveland Clinic, the list is based on the following criteria:
- Recommendations from more than 10,000 medical experts, including hospital managers and maternity healthcare professionals with knowledge about maternity processes, who were invited to participate in an online survey.
- Key hospital performance indicators relevant to maternity care, such as cesarean birth, exclusive breast-milk feeding, perinatal care and unexpected newborn complications.
- Patient satisfaction data, such as general satisfaction with the hospital and its medical staff’s responsiveness and communication.
“We are honored that Newsweek has recognized our hospitals for maternity care,” Edward Chien, M.D., chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Ob/Gyn Department, said in a statement. “This recognition reflects the expertise of our caregivers, who are dedicated to providing high-quality maternity care and an excellent birthing experience for our patients.”
