OTTAWA, Ohio — A 17-year-old female is in the hospital tonight following an accident on State Route 163 near mile post 17.
The incident happened around 6:30 Wednesday morning after the driver lost control of her vehicle while attempting to avoid striking another car which had slowed down to make a left turn. The driver hit a landscape mound and went airborne before landing on the rear of the first patrol car, and the second deputy's vehicle also was hit during the collision.
The teenager is currently at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo with a serious head injury, while 43-year-old Ottawa County Sheriff's Deputy Marc Nye sustained severe injuries and was transported to McGruder Hospital in Port Clinton. The second officer was not injured.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be involved at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
