Cleveland Heights police cruiser collides with car while chasing stolen vehicle

Cleveland Heights police say a Solon man underwent a medical evaluation after colliding with a police car during a stolen vehicle pursuit.

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Heights police are working to identify an aggravated robbery suspect after the pursuit of an allegedly stolen car ended after a police cruiser crashed into an uninvolved vehicle.

According to the Cleveland Heights Police Department, officers were alerted just after 2 p.m. on Monday, February 26, that a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox was reported stolen. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, police said the driver fled northbound on Noble Road into East Cleveland and led police on a chase through East Cleveland and Cleveland.

During the pursuit, a police cruiser collided with a 2019 Porsche around the intersection of Superior Road and East 111th Street in Cleveland. Police terminated the chase after the crash.

The suspect “evaded officers and has not yet been identified,” police said.

Police did not initially report any injuries in the incident, but said on Tuesday that the driver of the Porsche, a 52-year-old Solon man, “later underwent a medical evaluation.”

The CHPD officer and K9 officer in the police cruiser were not injured.

The CHPD is investigating the incident and will conduct a pursuit analysis.
