BARBERTON, Ohio — 3News has learned that the woman who falsely reported being attacked at Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton is now facing charges in connection with the incident.
According to the Summit Metro Parks, the woman is facing misdemeanor charges of inducing panic and making false alarms.
On Aug. 1, officials told 3News that following a joint investigation involving the Summit Metro Parks ranger department, Norton Police Department and the State Fire Marshall’s office, it had been determined that the alleged attack on Sunday, July 28, was falsely reported.
Officials noted that her report was inaccurate and that no other individuals were involved in the previously reported incident.
"We understand that this incident has caused significant fear for our park visitors," said a spokesperson for Summit Metro Parks following the investigation. "We hope that the conclusion and outcome of this case will reassure those who were wary of visiting the trails, as there is no public threat resulting from this false claim. We hope through this unfortunate circumstance the person involved receives the care and support she needs.
