AKRON, Ohio — The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office and other law enforcement officials are investigating two separate fatal shootings in the county over the weekend.
Akron
The first incident happened around 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the 800 block of Copley Road. Akron police a 62-year-old man was shot in an apartment in that area. He later died at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center.
The man has since been identified as Akron resident Derrick Eldon Wilkes, and officials say he died after being shot in the torso. The incident remains under investigation.
New Franklin
The second incident happened in New Franklin early Sunday morning. Investigators say a 53-year-old man was shot while riding his motorcycle away from a "domestic altercation" in the 5400 block of Dailey Road. The man was pronounced dead at the scene around 3:30 a.m., police said.
The victim has been identified as Jeffrey Alan Fisher, of the nearby village of Clinton. The fatal gunshot wound was to his chest, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner.
Eric Mendoza Sr. was arrested and charged for Fisher's murder. He is currently in the Summit County Jail.
