AKRON, Ohio — An investigation is underway after a 29-year-old woman was struck and killed in Summit County.
The incident happened at around 5:35 a.m. on Wednesday after authorities say the woman was walking across I-77 eastbound from the southbound shoulder. She went over a median barrier and attempted to cross the northbound lanes but was hit by a vehicle driving northbound.
The accident occurred on I-77 North near the Vernon Odom Boulevard exit in Akron.
The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as Morgan Guice of Akron and add that she was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:05 a.m.
The driver of the vehicle was a 64-year-old man from Akron. He stayed at the scene and was not injured during the crash.
Both the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office and the Akron Police Department are investigating the incident.
